About Vincentian Journey in Goa

vincentian retreat centre goa

The Vincentian mission in Goa was initiated by Fr. Augustine Mundackatt when he was pursuing his M.Ed. Course, in Nirmala Institute of Education in Altinho, Panjim, under the university of Goa in 1992-93. Fr. Mundackatt started a weekly prayer meeting in Malayalam in the Jesuit House, Panjim where he was staying. Later on, as local people began to join, these prayer meetings were conducted in English.

Joining with the then existing Kerala Catholic Association, Holy Mass was celebrated in Malayalam on every Sunday at different places in Goa, from Vasco to Valpoi. That was the beginning of the organized regular Malayalam service in Goa by the Vincentians. Under the spiritual leadership of Fr. Augustine Mundackatt, with the help of Kerala Catholic Association, the first Malayalam Bible Convention was held at Kuris Milagros at Old Goa in 1993. In the following years Fr. Michael Panachikal, Fr. Joseph Ayamkolil and Fr. George Vadakkekara joined Fr. Augustine Mundackatt with other lay ministers to conduct retreats and conventions.
